Who We Are
Kiwanis International is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world, one child and one community at a time. Founded in Detroit, Michigan, in 1915, Kiwanis International consists of more than 600,000 members in 8,400 clubs and 96 nations. Kiwanis membership is based on service, leadership and fellowship.
The Kiwanis Club of Kisumu was chartered under Kiwanis International in 2005 and registered as an official self-help group the same year. In June 2010, the Kisumu Kiwanis Club was officially registered as a Kenyan community-based organization, under the name Kiwanis Development Initiative.
The Kiwanis Club of Kisumu is comprised of community members who donate their time and talents to assist disadvantaged children. The 20 members come from various professions, including education, public health, community development, private business and insurance. Meetings are held every other Friday from 5:30pm-6:30pm.
